Age Successfully — Your Lifestyle Is Key!

 

Reinforcing a mission to inspire and nurture successful aging, more than 60 residents, family members, friends and guests gathered on the morning of Wednesday, August 19, for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting launch of Masterpiece Living® at the community.

Masterpiece Living is a revolutionary approach to successful aging, designed to create a culture that embraces what research indicates is possible — older adults can continue to grow throughout their lives.

Mayor Samuel Jones and other city dignitaries and community leaders were at the forefront of a festive senior pep rally that day — then on Thursday, August 20, Dr. David Gobble, nationally recognized educator and leader in the fields of health promotion, wellness and gerontology, gave an enlightening presentation on the landmark studies forming the foundation of Masterpiece Living.

"Studies show that 70% of how well you age is determined by lifestyle choices," said Dr. Gobble. "Being physically active, eating well, managing stress, getting preventive health screenings and staying connected — exactly the opportunities you have for aging successfully here at Somerby. Believe me when I say, 'Where you live has everything to do with how you live.'"

Executive Director Jane Scrivner reinforced Dr. Gobble's comments. "Vitality and independence are what our residents want and expect in their lifestyle.
